20-year-old man docked over alleged illegal possession of firearm

A 20-year-old man, Chukwuezugo Igweobi, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Amawbia Chief Magistrate’s Court over illegal possession of a firearm.

The Prosecutor, ASP Aduaka Achunike, told the court that the defendant was arrested by police on July 23, 2024, along Awka-Amansea Road, Awka, Anambra state.

“That you Chukwuezugo Igweobi did have in your possession one locally made double barrette pistol gun with one live ammunition without license from the Inspector General of Police, “he said.

The prosecutor said the offence contravene Section 27(1) (b) (v) of the Firearms Act Cap F 28 Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge of illegal possession of the firearm.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.N. Ike granted the defendant N200,000 bail with one reliable surety in the like sum.

She adjourned the case to April 2, for hearing
