Three Nigerian Police officers have been dismissed for alleged involvement in abduction and extortion in Abia State
The officers, identified as Jonas Nnamdi, James Daniel, and Ifeanyi Emeka, were arrested on January 29 after they were caught conspiring with civilians to abduct individuals along the Port Harcourt Expressway, extort money, and demand additional payments for their release.
The police spokesperson, Maureen Chinaka said: “The officers were dismissed for discreditable conduct involving conspiracy, abduction and extortion of their unsuspecting victims.”
According to her, an investigation confirmed their misconduct, and “an investigation/orderly room trial was initiated by the (state police) command,” which led to their dismissal due to behaviour “prejudicial to discipline and unbecoming of officers of the Nigeria Police Force.”
Chinaka added, “Their official accoutrements have been retrieved by the Command’s Provost, and they cease to be members of the force.”
Police Commissioner, Danladi Isa said the state’s zero-tolerance stance on, “discipline and professionalism is the bedrock of the Nigeria Police Force, the command will not condone the activities of bad eggs in the force.”
The police boss added that the dismissed officers and their civilian accomplices have been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for prosecution.
The commissioner noted that despite previous sanctions, such cases of police misconduct, including extortion, continue to surface across Nigeria.
