The Nigerian Institute of Management Chartered (NIM) has said that the well-being and welfare of Nigerian military personnel must be a top priority for the nation and Africa at large.
Dr Christiana Atako, the NIM President and Chairman of Council, gave the advice on Monday in Lagos to commemorate the country’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
The Armed Forces Remembrance Day commemorated annually on Jan. 15 serves to remember the country’s departed compatriots and celebrate the living veterans.
According to Atako, the annual event is a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by armed forces in defending the nation’s sovereignty and protecting the people.
“It is a day when we come together as a nation to pay tribute to the bravery, resilience, and selflessness exhibited by our military personnel in the face of immense challenges.
“The institute remained committed to supporting and recognising the contributions of our armed forces,” she said.
Atako, however, encouraged the government and all relevant stakeholders to continue to work towards providing the Nigerian Armed Forces with the necessary resources, training, and equipment required for their duties.
“On behalf of the Nigerian Institute of Management, I extend my warmest regards and salute the valiant men and women of our armed forces.
“As we observe this day, let us not forget the fallen heroes who paid the ultimate price in defence of our beloved country.
“Their sacrifice should serve as a constant reminder of the need to preserve the unity and peace of our nation.
“We owe them our eternal gratitude and promise to honor their memory by upholding the ideals for which they fought,” she added.
Atako also called for the need for all citizens to play their part in fostering unity and harmony within the nation.
According to her, we must all embrace the spirit of patriotism and actively promote peace and understanding among diverse ethnic, religious, and cultural groups.
“Together, we can build a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.
“On this commemorative day, I urge all Nigerians to take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices made by our armed forces, to honor the memory of our fallen heroes, and to express our gratitude to those currently serving in our military.
“May their efforts never be in vain, and may their courage inspire us to build a better future for all.
“God bless our armed forces, God bless Nigeria,” she said
