The Edo Command of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) in Benin has called for synergy with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to enhance its operations in the state
Mr Kenneth Ake, the Command’s spokesperson said that the synergy became important in view of the recent misunderstanding between NIS’s officers and a staff of NAN.
Ake, in a statement, said that as agencies of the Federal Government, both were to complement each other in their duties instead of engaging in rancour.
He said the manhandling of the staff occurred as a result of a misunderstanding of identity, saying that the altercation escalated, with both parties engaging in a shouting match.
Ake said that when he received a call on the development, he swiftly intervened and apologised to the journalist for any embarrassment she might have suffered.
“I told her that she ought to have identified herself, even though she believed that she was well known in the command,” he said.
The command’s spokesperson denied allegations that the journalist was called an albino by any officer or men in the command.
“My findings did not reveal that she was called an Albino by any officer or men in the command,” he said.
Odigie said she identified herself and wondered why she would be manhandled after her engagement in activities of the command for many years.
