An unemployed 19-year-old man, Habeeb Jimoh, was on Wednesday docked at an Ota Magistrates’ court in Ogun, for allegedly breaking into a shop and stealing perfumes and provisions valued at N300,000.
The Police charged Jimoh with alleged stealing and burglary.
The Prosecution Council, Insp. E.O.Adaraloye told the court that the defendant committed the offences between Feb. 26 and March 8 at about 12.30 a.m. at Olaniyi Bus-Stop, Ewupe, Sango-Ota.
Adaraloye alleged that the defendant broke into the shop of the complainant, Chukuma Obiazikwu, to steal perfumes,10 cartoons of success peanut and provisions valued at N300,000.
He said that the defendant was caught by members of the vigilance group and handed over to the police.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 390(9) and 413 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.O.Adeyemi, granted him bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adeyemi said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.
She adjourned the case until April 6 for further hearing.
