Nsukka, Nigeria – Dr.Chinedu Ejezie, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Political Science, University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), says if the newly-established Africa Democratic Congress (ADC)
remains focused, it will become the ruling party after the 2027 general elections

Ejezie said this in Nsukka on Wednesday while reacting on the adoption of ADC by coalition of opposition parties in the country.

He said the coalition is a strong movement compromising strong personalities across the country,

The don said the coalition had been criticising the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) over security challenges, high cost of food items, hunger, high cost of goods and services, among others.

“If ADC remains focused, avoids personal selfishness as well as avoid internal wrangling, the present national ruling party may not return to ‘Aso Rock’ after 2027 general elections.

“If we calculate the number of votes in the 2023 presidential election scored by former Vice-president, Atiku Abubaka, who was presidential candidate of the People Democratic Party, and Mr Peter Obi, former Anambra State Governor, who was the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP),
we will need no magician to tell us that these two political heavy weights are together, the ADC presidential candidate will poll more votes in 2027 to win.

“This same surprise by ADC at national level will also happen in many states across the federation in that general elections,” he said.

The political Scientist recalled that, it was the merger of Nigeria’s three largest opposition parties in February 6, 2013, that gave birth to the APC.

“It was this merger that made possible the victory of former President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 presidential election.

“Nigerians will not be surprised if the same thing that happened in 2015 general elections because of the merger of opposition political parties happens in 2027 as result of adoption of ADC by some opposition political parties recently,” he said.

It would be recalled that, the
coalition of opposition forces on July 3 in Abuja formally adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election
