Admiralty Varsity set to appoint new VC

Management of the Admiralty University of Nigeria has concluded plans to appoint a new vice chancellor with the conclusion of a selection process.

According to a source that pleaded anonymity, after reviewing all the results, the Joint Selection Board reached a consensus to select the top three candidates, that included Prof Lucien Chukwu, who came out tops with 83.41 per cent.

He beat Prof. Ifeoma Irene Ijeh who scored 69.16 per cent and one other.

The source noted that before arriving at the top three, a total of five candidates were listed from the screening exercise. This also included Professors Lucien Chukwu, Sunny Iyuke, Christopher B. N. Ogbogbo, Lawrence Omo-Aghoja and Ifeoma Irene Ijeh.

The source noted that the Joint Selection Board was confident that the selection process had resulted in the identification of three most qualified and suitable candidates for the post.

“The board is seeking a final approval of one of the three candidates by the Governing Council and proceed with the appointment process.

“A formal notification will be made to the successful candidate and an official letter issued. A public announcement too will be made in this regard concerning concerning the selection outcome, to the relevant stakeholders.

“The Joint Selection Board want to appreciate the opportunity given to it by the Governing of the university, in contributing to the the recruitment process of a befitting vice chancellor of the institution,” the source stated.

The Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN) is owned by the Nigerian Navy (via its Navy Holdings Limited).

The main campus of the University is located at the Ibusa – Ogwashi-Uku Expressway in Delta, about 20km from Asaba, the state capital.

The institution also has another campus located at the existing site of the Nigerian Navy Engineering College, in Sapele, Sapele Local Government Area (LGA).

Both campuses of the university are well developed for academic activities.

The main objective of the university is: to expand the frontiers of knowledge in various unique specializations such as maritime, Logistics Management, Forensic and Cyber Security Sciences; use university education as a tool towards development and the enhancement of human well being; to address the challenges of nation-building in Nigeria; and to raise exemplary leaders who will serve humanity with distinction.
