APC stakeholders in Abia State have bought nomination and expression of interest forms for Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, urging him to join the 2027 governorship race.

Forms Presented to Kalu in Abuja

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Abia formally presented the forms to Kalu on Saturday in Abuja. The delegation included party leaders, professionals, and community figures from Abia North, Abia Central, and Abia South.

They said the move showed growing support among party members and grassroots backers who see Kalu as the best option for the 2027 governorship contest.

In response, Kalu described the action as a clear call to serve the people of Abia State. He said he would hold consultations before making a final decision.

“Within the next one or two days, after due consultations, I will make my position known,” he said.

Delegation Cites Leadership Record

Meanwhile, leader of the delegation, James Uko-Kalu, said the group acted based on conviction. He praised Kalu’s leadership record and ability to run an inclusive government.

According to him, Kalu’s work in the House of Representatives since 2019 has shown competence, consistency, and readiness for bigger responsibility.

“We have followed his work closely and can attest to his outstanding performance, which has translated into tangible development,” he said.

APC Unity Push in Abia

Furthermore, retired Major General Jack Nwaogbu said the APC in Abia has regained strength in recent months. He linked the progress to Kalu’s role in restoring unity and rebuilding trust after internal crises and weak results in the 2023 general elections.

Representing Abia South, Barrister Uzo Azubuike said the move reflected the wishes of the people. He added that Kalu has the capacity to transform the state and improve its economy and political standing.

However, Kalu thanked the stakeholders for their support and loyalty. He restated his commitment to the APC and their ambition for him to become governor,

But he statted that his immediate focus remains strengthening APC structures across the South-East and mobilising support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.

Consequently, he added that unity, discipline, and commitment among members would decide the party’s chances in Abia State.
