Lagos, May 20, 2024 – For some members of Makoko Community in Yaba, Lagos State, Tuesday May 14, 2024 would remain a remarkable day as foodstuffs and educational materials worth N7 million was distributed to them by the Bible Society of Nigeria.
The gesture, according to the society, was part of promoting the social doctrine of the church by caring for those in need and bringing the light and love of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to impact their livelihood.
About 90 beneficiaries cutting across ages, tribes, tongues and religion were blessed with the generosity of BSN.
Speaking at the event, the General Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the society, Pastor Samuel Sanusi, said that the donation was part of the Macedonia Call Project of the society.
Represented by Mrs Grace Benjamin, Sanusi explained that part of the vision of the project was to support the needy in schools.
“We want to live out what is in the Bible. What we are doing today is in accordance with the Bible, which says we should support the needy among us.
“We don’t just translate the Bible, we help people interact with the word of God,” he stated.
Sanusi said that the society cares for the spiritual and material needs of the society, especially during the economic downturn we all find ourselves.
While noting that the government cannot do it all, he said that the Macedonia Call Project was part of efforts geared towards supporting what the government was doing for its citizens.
He added that the society was committed to supporting the efforts of the government.
“We did not only take care of people’s physical needs, we also supported them spiritually by giving them Bibles, to ensure they were balanced physically and spiritually,” he added.
120 pupils of Adekunle Primary School, Makoko, Lagos, benefited from the BSN school packs.
One of the beneficiaries of the food items, Ijukmisinno Hezekiah, thanked the society, adding that the food items would help alleviate their hardship.
Another beneficiary, Esther Benson, appreciated the BSN for remembering them.
She said that the food items meant a lot to her during this current economic hardship.
It would be recalled that BSN began the Macedonia Call Project in 2018.
The project has reached out to thousands of Nigerians, especially in Internally Displaced Persons(IDP) camps and slums in different parts of the country.
