The Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) has underscored the need to build a network of support for trauma victims that will engender holistic healing.
Pastor Samuel Sanusi, General Secretary/ Chief Executive Officer of BSN made the call at the 2025 Trauma Healing International Community of Practice Conference holding in Lagos.
About 15 Bible societies across Africa converged in Lagos for a two-day “Trauma Healing International Community of Practice Conference.”
The theme of the conference is “Healing Trauma in a World of Uncertainty: Navigating Global Crises and Building Resilience.”
Sanusi said the community of practice is not just a space to discuss challenges but also an opportunity to explore solutions rooted in our own experiences and realities.
“It is an opportunity to learn from one another, share knowledge and build a network of support that spans across disciplines and regions.
“We are here to forge a path that is grounded in compassion, in culturally sensitive healing practices, and in a commitment to creating spaces where people can heal– not only as individuals but as communities,” sanusi said.
He noted that the gathering would bring forward the voices of those mostly impacted by trauma.
“Those who have lived through its worst and continue to walk the path of recovery.
“Through this community, we aim to uplift these voices and ensure they are heard, respected and integrated into our work,” Sanusi said.
The CEO explained that the current crises in the world have brought grievous trauma upon humanity.
He described trauma as a barrier to meaningful scripture engagement, dividing and isolating individuals and communities.
He added that trauma, whether caused by conflict, displacement, violence, loss or systemic injustice , leaves deep scares that move through generations.
He, however, expressed gratitude to the American Bible Society for their support in hosting of the conference in Nigeria.
