The Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) and the Christian community in Nigeria are set to mark the National Bible Day on May 5.

This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Benjamin Mordi, Manager, Media & Public Relations, BSN, on Thursday in Lagos.

The statement said that the day, which has been set aside to celebrate the gift of the Bible, is to enable Nigerians reflect on, share, and imbibe the values prescribed by the Holy Bible.

Speaking ahead of the event, the General Secretary/CEO of The Bible Society of Nigeria, Pastor Samuel Sanusi, said:

“The National Bible Day is a wonderful occasion to reaffirm our commitment to biblical values and to encourage everyone to experience the life-changing power of the Word of God.”

Sanusi said that since the global community could celebrate Workers’ Day, Independence Day, Water Day, Literacy Day, and other days, set aside to be remembered, it would be ideal to also use a day to celebrate the Bible.

The CEO, who described the Bible as a gift from God to humanity, prayed for the peace, prosperity, and well-being of the nation.

“The Bible Society of Nigeria invites everyone to participate in the National Bible Day celebration on May 5, 2025, through studying, meditating, reflecting on and living by the standards of the Word of God.

“National Bible Day is celebrated annually across Nigeria by churches, schools, and other Christian organisations.

“It is an opportunity to highlight the importance of the Bible and encourage its study and application in our daily lives,” the statement said.

The Bible Society of Nigeria is a not-for-profit interdenominational Christian organisation that translates the Bible into Nigerian languages, publishes, and distributes the Holy Scriptures.

The BSN also raises funds for the Bible work and executes programmes that help people to engage with the Word of God to transform their lives.

It has so far translated the full Bible in 27 Nigerian languages with ongoing Bible translation/revision projects in over eight Nigerian languages at their respective stages of completion.

It costs the organisation a minimum of ₦150 million to complete a Bible translation project if achieved in eight years.

  1. I thank God for the gift of Bible to humanity. I pray that, the word of God will continue to radiate and illuminate individual, home , society, nation and the world at large in Jesus name. “BSN Making the word available”

  2. Without the Bible, Christianity would have been a forgotten story. The whole world would have become a den of lions. No development could have been achievable without Christianity. Jesus Christ brought life to the Earth.
The Bible Society must not die. The BSN is the reason for the existence of the CAN. Jesus Christ did this for mankind to exist on Earth.
