Caleb student bags 2024 ‘Top in World’ English award

Miss Kenechukwu Uba, a student of Caleb International College, Magodo, Lagos, has been honoured with the coveted ‘Outstanding Cambridge Learners’ award.

She received the award for being the ‘Top in World’ candidate for the November 2024 Cambridge (IGCSE) English, as a Second Language (Speaking Endorsement)

IGCSE refers to the International General Certificate of Secondary Education.

This is contained in a statement by Prof. Elvis Otobo, Spokesperson to Dr Oladega Adebogun, Proprietor and Founder, Caleb Group of Schools and University, issued on Friday in Lagos

According to Otobo, the pronouncement by Rod Smith, Group Managing Director, International Education at Cambridge University Press and Assessment, recognises Uba’s exceptional proficiency in spoken English on the global stage.

“Uba’s achievement underscores Caleb International College’s unwavering commitment to nurturing godliness, character development, and discipline alongside academic excellence.

“At the heart of the school’s mission is a holistic framework that combines advanced pedagogical techniques with one of the nation’s finest science and technology laboratories, as well as an extensive, digitally enabled library.

“This world-class learning environment empowers students to excel in rigorous international examinations and to contribute meaningfully to society.

“We are overjoyed by Uba’s outstanding performance,” he said,

According to him, Adebogun described her success as an embodiment of the core values of integrity, perseverance and innovation of the college.

“We invest heavily in cutting-edge teaching methods from flipped classrooms to AI-driven language laboratory; so that every student can discover their potential and lead with confidence,” he stated.

Otobo noted that Uba who received her award at a well-attended event in Lagos, attracted commendations, for achieving the highest speaking endorsement score, worldwide.

He stated that the ceremony was hosted by the British Council and Cambridge University Press and Assessment.

Speaking at the ceremony, Louise Hendey, Director, Sub-Saharan Africa, International Education, Cambridge, said the award celebrated not just a remarkable individual, but also, the supportive learning ecosystem that enabled her success.

Reflecting on her journey, Uba stated that from the moment she enrolled in Caleb, she felt inspired by teachers who challenged her to think deeply and by peers, who encouraged her to persevere.

“Preparing for the speaking endorsement in our state-of-the-art laboratory sharpened my confidence.

“This recognition belongs to everyone; my mentors, classmates and my family,” Uba said
