Abakaliki, Nigeria – The Women’s Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN) has charged Christian women not to relent in their prayers amidst the prevailing challenges facing the nation.
The women’s wing made the call in Abakaliki on Saturday during its 3rd Quarterly Meeting on championing a better course for the society through faith, value and actions.
The meeting, themed “Come let us champion a better course for the society through Christian women”, brought together leaders from various religious backgrounds to address the pressing issue of the nation and way forward.
Mrs Elizabeth Akinadewo, the National Chairperson of WOWICAN, advocating for dedication to the cause, said that Christian women could create a ripple effect of positivity, faith and transformation in the nation.
Akinadewo urged them to reflect, plan, encourage and be more determined than ever to impact the lives of children, women, families and the nation.
She explained that the gathering was apt as the country is navigating through various challenges.
“Even in the face of adversity, we find strength in our faith, sisterhood and collective mission to make a difference.
“Women can play a vital role in leadership, collaboration, support network, prayer and intercession to make positive impact in their communities and the society at large,” she said.
She further encouraged the women to continue being pillars of strength and beacon of hope in their respective homes and communities for national development.
“Again, times might be tough but our unity and faith in God will guide us through with dedication to the cause,” Akinadewo said.
In her remarks, Mrs Charity Ajujungwa, WOWICAN South-East zone, urged people, especially women not to allow the ugly situations in the country to move their feet from trusting in God for better.
“We have come from all states of the federation and the federal capital territory to pray for peace and to end insecurity in the country, “Ajujungwa said.
Mrs Rita Okpagku, Chairperson, Ebonyi WOWICAN, while appreciating the state governor, Mr Francis Nwifuru, for his support to the organisation, called for changes in attitude and proper upbringing of children.
The South-East CAN Chairman, Rev. Fr. Abraham Nwali, expressed satisfaction over the group’s commitment to champion a better course for the nation.
The state CAN Chairman, Rev Scamb Nwokolo, called on women to step up to their responsibilities and contribute to eradicate social vices in the country.
