The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says that its civil defence community initiative has made tremendous impact in Ebonyi by bring security to their doorsteps.
The State Commandant of the corps, Francis Nnadi, made the assertion in Abakaliki while conferring a Qatar-based Business Mogul, Chief Sunny Ogbonnia, as the community’s patron.
Nnadi said that the community has come to stay in the state as testimonies of its positive impact abound.
“This is a grassroot-oriented initiative that affords the populace, unhindered access to security.
“The initiative conforms with our. motto of defending the defenceless while also giving voice to the voiceless.
“The community propagates the message that security is for everybody and not only for the rich and mighty.”
He noted that people were free to join the community to contribute to the overall protection of lives and properties.
“We appreciate stakeholders who have contributed immeasurably to the success of the initiative and such made us confer Ogbonnia as our patron.”
Nnadi, however, clarified that being a member of the community does not make one an officer of the corps but such brings people closer to its operations.
“We would soon organise rallies, road shows and other forms of enlightenment programmes to create further awareness on the gains of enrolling in the community.”
Chief Sunny Ogbonnia, in his response, thanked the NSCDC for the recognition, noting that it will spur him towards greater service to humanity.
“I have always identified with efforts to enhance security in Ebonyi and Nigeria, even from my base in Qatar.
“I have assisted hundreds of indigent youths enrol into forest guard organisations and other security outfits.
“Ensuring security of lives and properties is a collective obligation as efforts should be intensified to make Ebonyi and Nigeria safer.”
Goodwill messages were delivered on the occasion by the First Patriots Limited and other dignitaries who graced the occasion.
