The Customs Area Controller, (CAC) Tincan Island Port Command, Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Comptroller Frank Onyeka has disclosed that his focus would be on legitimate trade and businesses.

Onyeka made this known while hosting the executive of the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) during a courtesy visit to the new Tin-can Customs command boss.

He noted that with a focus on legitimate trade and businesses, he would also be able to meet and surpass the revenue target set for it by the Service.

He also expressed gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs, CG Bashir Adewale Adeniyi for the confidence reposed in him while pledging to repay the CGC”s trust.

“I have secured the buy-in of my officers to ensure that the trust reposed in us by the service’s management is not dashed.

“In facilitating legitimate trade, I feel I should do it in the strict sense. I come from the aspect of revenue. So, it is my prayer and hope to meet my target and surpass it.

“But principally, what I am going to fight is the ability to do this job without examination. Container examination should be with speed.

“I have involved Customs Intelligence Unit and Valuation unit, and spoken to all relevant units and it’s my prayer that all of us will be on the same page to make sure that the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is brought to fruition,” he said.

He,however, expressed gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs, CG Bashir Adewale Adeniyi for the confidence reposed in him and pledged never to disappoint him.

Onyeka also promised to build on the foundation laid by his predecessor, Assistant Comptroller General, ACG, Dera Nnadi.

“In anti-smuggling, he did well. In revenue generation, he did superbly well, the same goes for infrastructure development.

“His public relations was top-notch, which I am going to leverage on,” he said.

Earlier, in his address, the President of MARAN, Mr Godfrey Bivbere expressed the willingness of the association to partner with the CAC and the command to achieve the target ahead of the command.

He reiterated the firm resolution of the association to accord Comptroller Onyeka the same support accorded to his predecessor.
