Oshiri, Nigeria – Member representing Ohaozara/ Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency of Ebonyi at the National Assembly, Chief Nkemkanma Kama, has vowed to sustain his medical outreaches in his constituency.
Kama made the disclosure on Saturday during a health outreach at Oshiri community of Onicha Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, noting that the people’s health was paramount.
The lawmaker noted that such outreaches would continue until health centres and hospitals in the constituency are fully functional.
“The outreaches would be conducted every two years as about 16,000 indigents benefitted from last year’s outreach.
“We are expecting between 20,000 and 25,000 beneficiaries’ this year and we have included surgeries and cancer screening, among others.”
He noted that most of the beneficiaries were treated for eye-related issues attested by their surge to the outreach centre.
“We have already distributed 100 glasses and directed that 100 more glasses be provided.
“The cost implication of this outreach cannot be equated because nothing will be too much to enhance the people’s health wellbeing.
Kama said that complicated or severe cases are being referred to the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital (DUFUTH), Uburu, for adequate medical attention.
He thanked Gov. Francis Nwifuru for his support to his activities which has made him fulfill his mandate to the people.
“We would continue doing our best for Oshiri people and other constituents and the ones we can’t do, we plead with the governor to intervene.”
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Moses Ekuma, commended the lawmaker for the outreach and described it as “massive and impactful”.
Ekuma, represented by Dr Lawrence Ezeogo, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, said that Kama was complementing the governor’s strides in the health sector.
Chief John Igboke, a Stakeholder in the community, said that the massive turnout of indigents signified that they actually needed the medical intervention.
“The people are accessing treatment freely and the doctors present are from reputable hospitals.”
Mrs Elizabeth Okike, a beneficiary, thanked the lawmaker for the intervention and prayed God to bless and protect him.
