In a bid to boost food security and economic growth, the Enugu State Government and Local Government Councils have set a target to establish 260 farm estates across the state.

This ambitious project aims to provide modernized farming facilities, including farm warehouses and mini-houses for farmers.

The decision was reached during the Enugu State Economic Planning Commission’s first meeting in 2025, where the governor’s vision to create farm estates in all 17 Local Government Areas was discussed.

The commission also set a December 2025 deadline to end open defecation in the state.

Highlights of the Project:

260 Farm Estates: One farm estate will be established in each of the 260 wards in the state.

Modernized Farming Facilities: Each farm estate will have a farm warehouse and mini house for farmers.

Access Roads: Council chairmen have been tasked with constructing access roads to the farm estates.

Collaboration with Local Governments: The state government will assist local governments beyond the 60% state counterpart funding for capital development projects.

The project is expected to have a significant impact on the state’s economy and food security. With the establishment of these farm estates, Enugu State is poised to become a major player in Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
