Ex-Chairman of MTN Nigeria, Pascal Dozie dies at 85

Pascal Dozie, Founder of Defunct Diamond Bank and Ex-Chairman of MTN Nigeria, has died at the age of 85, a day before his 86th birthday.

According to family source, he died as a result of an undisclosed ailment on Tuesday.

Chief Dozie was born on April 9, 1939, in Egbu, Owerri, Imo State. His impact on Nigeria’s banking and telecommunications sectors is undeniable, even as he founded Diamond Bank in 1991, which later merged with Access Bank.

He excelled academically from an early age whereas attending Our Lady’s School in Emekuku and later studied economics at the London School of Economics, earning a degree and a master’s in administrative science from City University in London.

As chairman of MTN Nigeria, Dozie played a pivotal role in driving the country’s mobile telecommunications revolution.

The deceased, also founded the African Development Consulting Group, working with notable clients like Nestle and Pfizer.

His leadership and contributions earned him national recognition, including the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) honour.
