
Ohaukwu (Ebonyi), Nigeria – Wife of the governor of Ebonyi state, Mrs Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, has inaugurated a medical centre project initiated by Eze Nwachukwu, Member Representing Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency and named after her.
The ceremony took place on Monday, marking the second year in the series of projects inauguration by Nwachukwu.
Nwifuru commended the legislator for his commitment to improve healthcare for people in the constituency, describing the medical centre as a testament to people-centered leadership style of Nwachukwu.
She noted that the centre is expected to provide quality healthcare services for the people of Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency.
She urged the people to make use of the facility, which is equipped with modern medical equipment and staffed by trained healthcare professionals.
She noted that Nwachukwu’s tenure has been marked by initiatives that touch lives directly, from infrastructural development to educational support, economic empowerment, and health and community development.
In his remarks, Representative Nwachukwu said that centre, named “Chief Mary-Maudline Ogbonna Nwifuru medical centre”, is designed to stop the prevalence of quackery and maternal mortality in the area.
“We so named the facility because of Mrs Nwifuru’s deep concern for people’s wellbeing through her foundation – Better health for rural women and internally displaced persons.”
The lawmaker added that the centre, situated at Ewashi-Ngbo community in Ohaukwu Local Government Area, was also built to provide quality emergency interventions for his constituents.
He said that the facility is equipped with advanced equipment to serve the Ewashi-Ngbo people and the Agile neighboring communities in Benue state.
Nwachukwu later distributed free drugs, pharmaceutical medications, medical consumables among others, worth millions of Naira to 10 primary health cares centres in the area to tackle the menace of quackery.
In another development, the lawmaker, at the unveiling of the National Teachers’ Institute study centre in Ndiulo-Ngbo, said that 64 students were sponsored to obtain their degrees and the Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE).
In a goodwill message, the Senior Adviser on Primary Health to the government, Dr. Sabinus Nwibo, and a stakeholder in the community, Mrs Chinyere Elom, expressed satisfaction towards the project, adding that the facility will serve neighbouring communities in the area.
The ceremony featured the inauguration of completed constituency projects, launch of empowerment initiatives, and the presentation of a comprehensive stewardship account to the people.
