The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Command, said responsible driving remains the most effective way to prevent road traffic crashes and save lives.
Mrs Bridget Asekhauno, Sector Commander, FRSC, made the call at a town hall meeting with transport stakeholders in Awka on Friday to flag off 2025 Ember Month Campaign.
The campaign has the theme – ‘Take Responsibility for Your Safety – Stop Distracted Driving’
Asekhauno emphasised the importance of responsible driving behaviors and adherence to traffic rules and regulations.
“Statistics reveal that over 90 per cent of road traffic crashes are attributable to human factors such as speeding, impatience and dangerous overtaking.
“Others are drunk driving, using of phones while driving and ignoring traffic regulations.
“Many accidents on our roads were avoidable, so, our mission is to reduce road crashes and ensure the safe arrival of travelers, goods, and services across Anambra and beyond,”she said.
Asekhauno said the corps has intensified patrols and route monitoring on major highways and expanded public awareness campaigns in motor parks, churches, markets and media platforms.
“The corps will begin enforcement against speeding, poorly maintained vehicles and using phones while driving.
“We will collaborate with transport unions and park management to Improve rescue response for quick intervention during emergencies.
“We call on all road users and stakeholders to join us in this effort,” she said.
The Sector Commander appreciated Gov. Chukwuma Soludo for the continuous support in enhancing road safety infrastructure and logistics within the state.
She urged drivers to value the lives aboard, stay alert, stay alive and stop distracted driving.
“As we continue the Ember months campaign, take responsibility for your safety. The road is not a racetrack and life has no duplicate,” she advised.
