The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Command, has urged its Special Marshals to prioritise personal safety and be more security conscious while carrying out their duties across the state.
Mrs Bridget Asekhauno, Anambra Sector Commander, FRSC, made the call at the 2025 Special Marshal Sectoral Workshop on Saturday in Awka.
The Worksop which had the theme – ‘Enhancing Security and Strategies for Special Marshal Operations’, was organised by the FRSC
Special Duties and External Relations Special Marshals Section.
Asekhauno described the Special Marshals as the largest volunteer force in Africa and emphasised that their safety remains a top priority for the Corps.
She urged Special Marshals to always operate within approved routes, wear proper identification, and maintain close communication with regular officers and security agencies during field operations.
“Security awareness is essential in today’s environment.
“We encourage Special Marshals to be alert, avoid confrontations and promptly report any suspicious activity or threat to your safety,”she said.
The Sector Commander commended the Special Marshals for their voluntary contributions toward ensuring safer roads in the state.
Also speaking, the National Coordinator of FRSC Special Marshals, Mr Adaji Usman, represented by the National Secretary, Mr Friday Ekhator, said the workshop was necessary given the rising rate of insecurity in the country.
“Special Marshals need to be vigilant, understand their operational environment and use technological tools to enhance situational awareness.
“Let us also remain disciplined and committed to service and humanity,” he said.
Earlier, the State Coordinator of Special Marshals, Mr Michael Ogbusa, said the workshop aimed to provide valuable insights for improving field performance and personal safety.
“As the volunteer arm of the FRSC, we play a crucial role in public education, traffic control and community engagement to reduce road crashes and fatalities across Anambra.
“However, with the increasing insecurity, there is a growing need for Special Marshals to adopt proactive safety measures while on duty.
“This workshop is designed to equip us with updated knowledge on security consciousness, operational discipline and effective collaboration with regular marshals,” he said.
Ogbusa appreciated the FRSC for its continued support and training, assuring that members would remain committed to professionalism and safety while on duty.
The Special Marshals also underwent medical checks to verify their HIV status, blood pressure, blood sugar level and Body Mass Index.
