The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation, Mr Sola Giwa, has initiated a humanitarian empowerment programme, benefiting more than 500 members of his constituency.

Speaking at the seed empowerment programme held on Thursday in Lagos, Giwa said the initiative was also aimed at encouraging party registration.

“This is purely giving back to my constituency, my little contribution to the party that gave me the platform to serve. This is where I come from; I am a grassroots politician,” he said.

He noted that beneficiaries were required to be registered members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Giwa said the programme was initially designed to empower 200 people but was later expanded to 500, adding that the number of beneficiaries had now increased to 700.

On the amount disbursed, he stressed that the exercise was not about the figures but a symbolic gesture of appreciation for party members who worked tirelessly to help achieve their mandate.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area, Mr Folawiyo Muibi, commended the initiative.

“While elected executives in Lagos State continue to improve the party’s image and enhance the lives of members, what Giwa has done today is extraordinary.

“Over 500 people received N15,000 each, and we hope this is just the beginning,” Muibi said.

He described Giwa as an achiever, noting that he had served the state at various levels with a visible track record of performance.

Similarly, Mr Olanrewaju Afinni, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Lagos Island Constituency II, described the initiative as laudable.

“By giving back to the community, Giwa is easing the burden on elected officials. For an appointed official to do this is commendable,” Afinni said.
