Today, I join your family, friends, associates, political colleagues and the good people of Edo State in celebrating an exceptional statesman, administrator, leader and patriot, on the occasion of your 87th birthday.
Sir, your life has been a remarkable journey of service to our nation. As a distinguished Federal Permanent Secretary, you contributed immensely to the development and administration of Nigeria. Your years in public service demonstrated discipline, competence, dedication and abiding commitment to principles of good governance.
History will also remember you as the first civilian Governor of Edo State, where you had the privilege and responsibility of laying important foundations for democratic governance in the then newly created state. Your tenure remains an important chapter in the political history of Edo State and Nigeria.
Beyond Edo State, you continued to make significant contributions to national politics. During your tenure as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC – your former party), you played a crucial role in the development and management of one of Nigeria’s major political parties. Your experience, wisdom and ability to engage across political divides have continued to make you a respected voice in national affairs.
At 87, your greatest achievement is not merely the offices you have occupied, but the legacy of service, integrity, wisdom and leadership that you have built over the decades. You have witnessed Nigeria at different stages of its political and democratic evolution, and your experiences remain a valuable reservoir of knowledge for younger generations of Nigerians.
As an elder statesman, you continue to command respect because of your measured disposition, intellectual depth and understanding of complexities of public service and politics. At a time when our country needs experienced voices capable of offering wise counsel, your contribution remains invaluable.
On this special occasion, I celebrate not only the public servant and politician, but also the father, grandfather, mentor, friend and Edo patriot whose life has touched many people in different ways.
