Obi Promises Shared Leadership

Obi said his administration would not operate a system where the vice president plays a passive role in government.

However, he stressed that Kwankwaso would serve as a full partner in decision-making if they win the 2027 presidential election.

“The government we intend to form will no longer be a government where anybody will say that the vice president is a spare tyre,” Obi said.

Furthermore, he said both leaders would work together to advance national development and strengthen governance.

“The vice president will be a partner because we want to build a nation where there are two equal people who work for the greatness of the country.

“Decisions will be taken as partners. Everybody will be consulted. That is what we require, and that is how government functions,” he added.

Consequently, Obi accepted the party’s affirmation as its presidential candidate and formally invited Kwankwaso to join the ticket as vice-presidential candidate.

“It is on this note that I graciously accept the affirmation as the candidate of this great party. And in the same spirit, I am inviting Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to join me as the vice-presidential candidate,” he said.

Meanwhile, Obi said Kwankwaso shares his political ideals and commitment to building an egalitarian society.

According to him, both leaders believe in creating opportunities where every Nigerian can succeed regardless of background.

Former Rivals Unite Ahead of 2027

Obi and Kwankwaso contested the 2023 presidential election on separate platforms but finished behind former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and President Bola Tinubu, who won the election.

Meanwhile, Kwankwaso contested under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and secured victory only in Kano State, where he remains a major political force.

Furthermore, the alliance brings together two prominent opposition figures as political activities ahead of the 2027 general election continue to gather momentum.
