The Super Eagles of Nigeria recorded a vital 2–1 victory over Lesotho on Friday to strengthen their chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Captain William Troost-Ekong opened the scoring in the 55th minute from the penalty spot before Substitute Akor Adams doubled Nigeria’s lead in the 80th minute.

Lesotho pulled one back through Hlompho Kalake in the 83rd minute, but the Super Eagles held firm to secure all three points.

With the win, Nigeria are in third place in CAF Group C with 14 points, just one point behind leaders Benin and one point behind second-placed South Africa.

The Super Eagles will next face Benin Republic on Tuesday in Uyo, a clash that could prove decisive in the race for World Cup qualification.
