Speedboat cruising in the sea

Disaster occurred on Saturday in Cross River State as three medical students died from an accident on Saturday when their speedboat capsized at Marina Resort waterways in Calabar.

Two of the students were from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria,  while one was from the University of Uyo in Akwa Ibom State,

There were 15 passengers onboard, including 13 medical students.

Ten of the medical students were rescued by Navy team and other local divers. 

Cross River Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, has expressed sadness on the development and ordered full investigation into the cause of the accident.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary Emmanuel Ogbeche, the governor said: “As a government, our administration remains committed to protecting the sanctity of life and providing an enabling environment for business, tourism and peaceable living.

“Therefore, any untoward action that could derail our objective will not be tolerated.”
