The Nigerian media landscape is mourning the sudden passing of veteran journalist and The Eagle Online Publisher, Dotun Oladipo, who died on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the age of 56.

Oladipo reportedly felt unwell while at his office and attempted to drive himself to the hospital, during which he suffered a suspected heart attack. The news came as a shock to the media community, as he had visited the gym with his wife earlier in the day and posted on social media as late as 2:50 PM.

A 1992 Mass Communication graduate of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (formerly Ogun State Polytechnic), Oladipo transitioned early from traditional newsrooms to digital media, founding The Eagle Online in 2011 to deliver real-time news and enrich national discourse.

  • Before launching his digital outlet, he built a distinguished career as Politics Editor at The PUNCH, Sunday Editor at The Compass, and a reporter-researcher at Newswatch.
  • He played a foundational role in establishing the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), serving as its General Secretary and later as President from 2017 to 2021.
  • In October 2024, he became the pioneer President of the Innovative Media Partners Cooperative Multipurpose Society (IMPCMS) to support media sustainability. Throughout his career, he actively mentored young journalists on adopting digital technology.

Oladipo is survived by his wife, Taiwo Oladipo, and their children. Official statements regarding funeral arrangements from the family are expected shortly.
