The General Secretary, Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON), Mr Ayoade Ibrahim, has denied reports of his suspension as general secretary over alleged gross misconduct.

Ibrahim, who made this known in a statement on Saturday, also described the report as lacking merit and a mere speculation.

Recall that AUATON had on March 24 issued a statement suspending Ibrahim from the position of general secretary.

The statement signed by the Chairman, Media and Publicity, Mr Jossy Olawale, said the suspension was based on an alleged gross violation of the union’s constitution and disregard for office responsibilities.

Some of the allegations include threats to run a parallel union, anti-union, and personal interest.

Another is, the failure to provide up-to-date minutes of the union meetings, the core responsibility of the general secretary contravening Article 24b(incompetency) of its constitution among others.

The statement said: “This is to notify the general public about some unverified rumours that lack merit concerning the suspension and removal from office of the General Secretary of AUATON, Comrade Ayoade Ibrahim as mere speculation.

“This is as there is no iota of truth in the information regarding the position of the general secretary of AUATON, Comrade Ayoade Ibrahim.”

Shedding more light, Ibrahim, who denied all allegations, said he was still the general secretary of the union, saddled with the responsibility of receiving all correspondences.

“So, nobody suspended me, and I do not report to them; and if I have a query to answer, it is supposed to be the president of the union that will issue it.

“How can a member say he writes a petition against me to the public? I have never heard that; that is my position.

“I am not only the general secretary of the union; I am also the vice president of the International Alliance of App-Based Transport Workers; I represent Sub-Sahara Africa, “ Ibrahim said.
