The Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON) have vowed to continue its fight against alleged anti-labour practices meted by inDrive e-hailing platform.
The union’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Steven Iwindoye, had expressed dismay in a statement on Saturday, over alleged disregard for the well-being of members of the union by inDrive’s management.
Iwindoye was reacting to inDrive’s response to the union’s earlier agitation over concerns of insecurity and unfair pricing system.
In a statement signed by inDrive’s Regional Public Relations Manager, Lineo Thakhisi, the platform operated a transparent model that prioritised driver autonomy and fair pricing.
Thakhisi noted that, unlike traditional ride-hailing platforms with fixed fares, the platform’s bidding system allowed both drivers and passengers to negotiate and agree on a mutually acceptable fare.
“This ensures that drivers retain complete control over their earnings and are never forced to accept fares that do not align with their expectations, “ she said.
The union leader, however, said members would no longer tolerate disregard of members’ welfare.
Iwindoye, therefore, called on all app-based transporters to join in the fight, saying, “Together, we will create a better future for ourselves and our communities.
“We are the backbone of this industry, and our collective strength will not be undermined by your selfish interests.
“Your lack of concern for the visibility study of our industry is telling; you are only interested in perpetuating a system that benefits you, without regard for the long-term sustainability of our profession.
“We will not be party to this exploitation.”
