The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has applied for a Certified True Copy (CTC) of the latest court judgment that ordered the removal of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) from the register of political parties ahead of the 2027 elections.
INEC said it will take action after receiving the certified copy of the judgment.
The commission reacted after Justice Isah Dashen of the Federal High Court in Lokoja reversed the December 10, 2025, ruling that directed INEC to register the NDC as a political party.
INEC Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, said the commission will follow the court’s decision.
He added that INEC cannot comment fully until it receives the official judgment copy.
Haruna said the position before the December 10, 2025 judgment was that INEC had rejected the NDC’s letter of intent to register as a political party.
The NDC said it will challenge the deregistration order at the Court of Appeal, urging its candidates for the 2027 general elections to remain confident while pursuing legal action.
The party also maintained that it has not been deregistered despite the Federal High Court decision in Kogi State.
