Kidnapped Catholic priest, UNIZIK lecturer regains freedom

Awka, May 23, 2024 – Kidnapped Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Basil Gbuzuo and Prof. Sydney Onyeagu of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka have regained freedom.

The duo were last week abducted at Nkpor, Idemili Local Government Area of Anambra state by gunmen.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Spokesman of the Anambra State Police Command who confirmed the their released said the Commissioner of Police CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has activated onslaught operations on abductors of Fr. Basil Gbuzuo and Prof. Sydney Onyeagu of Unizik.

According to him, they were released unhurt by those who Kidnapped them on Friday.

“The CP assures that the Command is in high spirits and already leveraging on information in this regard especially to frustrate criminal intentions of non state actors and reduce crime to the barest minimum in the state,” he said .

Ikenga, however, did not share details of the priest’s release, but said that the government has commenced work to exterminate all criminal elements in the state.
