Lagos denies re-introducing monthly environmental sanitation

The Lagos State Government has officially denied the re-introduction of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, which was rumored to begin at the end of July.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, clarified that the viral news circulating on social media is false and the work of mischief makers aiming to confuse the public.

In an official statement, Wahab emphasized that there will be no restriction of movement on the last Saturday of July as falsely claimed.

Instead, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had announced a weekly community-based sensitization and awareness exercise during a sanitation sensitization event at Campos playground on Lagos Island.

This initiative involves government officials leading voluntary cleaning activities and encouraging residents to maintain a clean environment.

Wahab urged residents to disregard the false news and continue their daily activities without concern for any movement restrictions related to environmental sanitation.

He also encouraged the public to adopt a culture of regular cleanliness rather than waiting for a designated monthly exercise.
