The Lagos State Police Command has identified and arrested a police officer seen in a viral video making anti-Igbo comments and declaring that Peter Obi or any Igbo person could never become Nigeria’s president.
The officer, who was travelling in a commercial bus, was heard making derogatory remarks about people from the South-East.
In the video, he also claimed that only President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar were suitable to become Nigeria’s president.
The command confirmed the officer’s arrest after the video sparked reactions on social media.
The police said the officer’s conduct does not represent its values and warned that it would not tolerate actions capable of damaging the dignity and integrity of the Force.
The Command said it would not condone any conduct capable of bringing the Nigeria Police Force into disrepute or undermining public confidence in the institution.
The Lagos Police Command also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and professional policing.
It said officers are expected to uphold humility, integrity and respect for all Nigerians, regardless of their ethnic or political backgrounds.
The development comes amid heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections, with public officials and security agencies facing increased scrutiny over political neutrality.
