Abakaliki, Nigeria – The Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as equitable infrastructure allocation and the ongoing construction of major road projects across the Calabar-Ebonyi-Benue-Kogi-Abuja corridor.
Umahi expressed satisfaction on Saturday during an inspection of the ongoing construction of the 123-kilometre and 173-kilometre sections of the road projects.
The Federal Ministry of Works described the Calabar-Ebonyi-Abuja corridor as a strategic component of the Federal Government’s infrastructure programme, expected to improve connectivity among the South-East, South-South and North-Central regions.
The Minister said the Section two of the road covers the Ebonyi-Benue-Enugu-Kogi and Nasarawa axis and forms part of the Trans-Sahara Super Highway network.
Umahi commended the project team, particularly the contractors handling the various sections, for the progress recorded since his previous inspection and the quality of work executed.
The minister said no previous administration had matched the level of commitment demonstrated by the Tinubu administration toward the people of the South-East through infrastructure development and regional inclusion.
He said the region had no reason not to support the administration, citing the ongoing road projects as evidence of what he described as fair treatment.
“Let us compare the past with the present and see the good intentions the President has for the South-East. We have been fully integrated into these kinds of projects.
“We have a lot that the President has done for the South-East. So, we are happy with the ongoing projects in the zone,” Umahi said.
He urged the people of the South-East to translate the projects into support for the administration in the 2027 general elections.
Earlier, Umahi directed that properties within the proposed road alignment should not be demolished, adding that the design could be adjusted where necessary.
He said necessary technical adjustments to the alignment, particularly around sharp curves and built-up areas, would not impose additional costs on the Federal Government.
In her remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement, South-East, Mrs Chioma Nweze, commended the ministry for connecting communities and enhancing economic activities across the regions.
