LWC kicks off rehabilitation, replacement of distribution networks in 4 Mini/Micro Waterworks to Improve Access to Potable Water in Lagos
LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) has commenced another phase of project implementation with the rehabilitation and replacement of distribution networks in four (4) mini/micro waterworks—Apapa I & II, Magodo I & II, Alexander I & II, and Magodo III & Isolo—as part of efforts to improve access to potable water supply across the state.
The official kick-off ceremony was held today, Thursday, 11th September 2025, at the Corporation’s Headquarters, Water-House Boardroom, Ijora, Lagos.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of LWC, Engr. Mukhtaar Temitope Tijani, represented by the Executive Director, Operations, Engr. (Mrs.) Helen Omolanke Taiwo, emphasized the significance of the initiative.
“The importance of this kick-off cannot be over-emphasized. The Corporation is putting in place several efforts to enhance existing assets, incorporate multi-modal asset management and operational approaches—all aimed at improving our operational capability, increasing service levels, and ultimately improving access to potable water for Lagos residents,” she stated.
According to Engr. Tijani, the project follows a thorough assessment of the distribution networks in the four identified service areas. After a successful procurement process in line with Lagos State Public Procurement Agency guidelines, contracts were awarded to:
FBS Construction Engineering Services Ltd. – Magodo I & II
Serock Services Ltd. – Alexander I & II
Conswealth Nigeria Ltd. – Magodo III & Isolo
Northcross Energy Ltd. – Apapa I & II
Stakeholder Endorsements
The project received commendations from key state ministries present at the ceremony.
Mr. Fuad Oyede, Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget (MEPB), representing the Permanent Secretary, pledged the Ministry’s support.
“MEPB is ready to support these projects diligently. We will monitor project milestones closely to ensure timelines and schedules are met,” he assured.
Also speaking, Engr. (Mrs.) Laolu Aishida, representing the Permanent Secretary, Office of Infrastructure, expressed the Ministry’s long-standing collaboration with LWC.
“We are happy to see this kick-off project and shall be part of it from beginning to end. We, however, request necessary documents such as project design, programme of work, and schedules to enable us to perform our oversight effectively.”
She further urged LWC to engage the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development on Right-of-Way matters to ensure smooth project execution.
Call to Action & Timeline
While congratulating the contractors, Engr. (Mrs.) Taiwo stressed the urgency of the rehabilitation.
“These networks have exceeded their service life and must be replaced. Similar works carried out in Abesan and Baruwa have shown clear improvements in water distribution. We expect the same positive outcomes here.
“I hereby congratulate the contractors on this rehabilitation project, undertaken with the purpose of prosperity for Lagosians.”
The Executive Director officially presented project designs to the contractors and announced a six-month implementation timeline, effective from 11th September 2025.
