Trade and commerce promoter, Nwabueze Buchi George has said that backing local production with strong purchase is the only way to grow Nigeria’s economy.

Buchi George, who is the President of Globe Chambers of Commerce and Industry, made the statement in an event held in Abuja, Nigeria to promote their ‘Buy Made in Nigeria Products’ project.

He said the event was designed to find a way to bridge the gap between production and purchasing of made in Nigeria products, adding that it is the only practical way to save the economy.

“We have been on this gospel for years now and we still insist that the more we make the world depend on us for a number of things other than oil, the better our economy will become”

“Nigerians are smart and very productive, we know what to do, but where demand does not meet supply, it becomes a waste of time and resources. Our ‘Buy Made in Nigeria Products’ project is not just advocating that we only sell in Nigeria, but we also sell around the world”, he said.

Also speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Richard Pheelangwah, said that Made in Nigeria goods are world standard, adding that it is good to find a way to get it across the globe.

Pheelangwah also said that making Nigerian products gain global recognition will create a lot of jobs as well boost the country’s economy.

The event is part of preparing for the Nigeria Economic Forum and Buy Nigeria Expo which have been scheduled for Europe, Asia and North America.

The European edition will be held in Lisbon, Portugal – May 26-27, 2024; Valletta, Malta – May 23-24, 2024.
