Meet Ben, the master Barber: Cutting hair, building connections

With over 37 years of experience, Benedict Aga, a 44-year-old barber from Benue State, Nigeria, has honed his craft to perfection. Popularly known as Mr Ben, he has become an institution at his salon, which is located at 3rd Avenue 31Road Roundabout, Gowon Estate, Egbeda Area of Lagos state, where he expertly blends traditional techniques with modern trends.

Aga’s journey as a professional barber began in 1998 after exploring other skills. He takes pride in his work, saying, “I feel very happy and proud to be referred to as a barber. It’s tough, but consistency is key.”
As a father of two, Aga acknowledges the challenges of being a Nigerian entrepreneur, emphasizing the need to give it his all to achieve success.

So, what sets Aga apart? His dedication to his craft, attention to detail, and ability to connect with his clients on a personal level. He seamlessly blends traditional techniques with modern trends, ensuring each client receives a tailored experience. From precise clipper cuts to sharp, clean fades, Aga’s hands move with ease, executing each style with finesse.

But Aga’s impact goes beyond just cutting hair. His chair becomes a space where clients feel at ease, building a rapport that transcends grooming. He is a trusted confidant, a skilled conversationalist, and a master at creating memorable experiences. No wonder his clients return time and again.

Financially, Aga’s chosen career has been profitable, with monthly earnings ranging from N80,000 to N100,000. He averages six customers daily and 35 clients weekly, excluding home services.

As Aga continues to build his legacy, one thing is clear: he is more than just a barber – he is an artist, a confidant, and a master of his craft.
