Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, has bagged the Nigeria Excellence Award in Public Service (NEAPS).

Mrs Rhoda Illiya, the Deputy Director of Information in the Ministry, said this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

Umar-Farouq bagged the Award for Social and Humanitarian Interventions in recognition of her excellent performance in uplifting the plight of the poor and vulnerable in Nigeria.

She was among the 44 awardees in the country.

Iliya said in the statement that President Muhammadu Buhari, who presented the award to the minister, stated that the awardees were people that had distinguished themselves in service to humanity, and contributed to the transformation of the country.

Buhari said the awards were borne out of empirical evidence of their performances in the various sectors of the economy.

Awardees were selected from all levels of the public service: state and federal governments, as well as non-profit organisations.

Other awardees included former President Goodluck Jonathan, Senate President Ahmed Lawan, Speaker House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.

She said ministers, governors, chief executive officers of agencies, service chiefs, the Inspector General of Police and Bankers, among others, all made the list of the awardees.

The award ceremony was organized by The Best Strategic Media (TBS), in conjunction with the Office of the Secretary to Government of the Federation.
