Wife of Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has urged mothers to prioritise their health and self-care, emphasising its importance for their families’ welfare, societal progress and national development.

Soludo the founder of Healthy Living Initiative, made the assertion on Friday in Awka, at a forum tagged Mothers’ Wellness Summit with the theme – ‘Mothers’ Well-being: the Pillar of Every Home’.

The summit was organised by Women Initiative for Greater Anambra (WIGA), in collaboration with Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative.

She said mothers were key players in building a healthy and productive society.

“Mothers often focus so much on their families that they neglect their own health, but prioritising your well-being is essential for setting a positive example for healthy habits, such self-care in the home.

“Parenting also requires physical energy and stamina. So, I urge our mothers to adopt practices that promote both physical and mental wellness. Go for regular health checks, eat balanced diet and exercise.

“For our families, society and Nigeria to be good, mother needs to be healthy to carry out their daily motherly responsibilities,”she said.

In his lecture, Prof. Brian Adinma, a Gynaecologist at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, called for the establishment of wellness clinics in communities.

Adinma said wellness clinics play crucial role in supporting the health and well-being of women by providing holistic care tailored to women’s unique physical, emotional, and social needs.

“Women can access counseling and treatment for reproductive health issues such as menstrual disorders, menopause, fertility challenges and mental health issues,” he said.

Dr Afam Obidike, Commissioner for Health, said that mothers play pivotal role in nurturing healthy families, which forms the foundation of a stable society and improved public health outcomes.

In her remarks, Mrs Amaka Obi, Chairman, Idemili South LGA and Convener of WIGA, said the summit was to empower women through education, healthcare, and equal opportunities.

“When women thrive, Anambra state will flourish and become more inclusive, resilient, liveable and prosperous,” she said.
