Peter Obi, former presidential candidate and ex-Governor of Anambra State, raised concerns about the lack of transparency in the N54.2 trillion national budget for 2025.

Following President Bola Tinubu’s announcement of an increase from N49.7 trillion, Obi emphasized that Nigerians deserve a clear explanation of how the generated resources will be allocated.

He stated, “For transparency and accountability sake, Nigerians need to know how the resources generated from them are being allocated.”

Obi pointed out that while the sources of the increased revenue were outlined, no corresponding breakdown of expenditures was provided to justify the rise.

He stressed the importance of judicious spending, particularly in critical areas like education, healthcare, security, and poverty alleviation.

Obi also reminded Nigerians that they are still awaiting detailed information about the implementation of the 2023 “Renewed Hope” budget.

He urged the National Assembly to take action by publicly disclosing the full details of the 2024 budget, noting that transparency is crucial for ensuring accountability and informed decision-making.

“Transparency in this regard is crucial for ensuring accountability, learning from past budgets, and making informed decisions for the nation’s progress,” Obi stated, urging the government to prioritize openness and the well-being of the Nigerian people.
