The Forward Operating Base (FOB) of Nigerian Navy, Badagry, Lagos has handed over 354 bags of seized foreign rice to Nigeria Customs Service in Badagry.
The Commanding Officer, FOB, Navy Capt. SM Kabir disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Lagos.
According to him, on Aug.4, at about 12.23.p.m, the FOB Badagry handed over 171x50kg bags of seized foreign rice to representative of the Nigeria Customs Service, Western Marine Command, Badagry at the jetty in accordance with extant regulations
“Also at about 1.47.p.m, another 183x50kg bags of foreign rice were handed over to representative of Seme Area Command of NCS at the same venue with extant regulations.
“The handing over was in furtherance of FOB Badagry’s efforts to curb smuggling and other maritime crimes within its Area of Operations.
“The items were recovered during a targeted operation along Kese Creek in Badagry waterways.
“The operations resulted in the interception and confiscation of foreign parboiled rice suspended to have been snuggled into the country.
“The handing over was hitch-free and ended at about 2.45.p.m,” he said.
The Commanding Officer said that the sustained operations and seamless handovers underscore the Nigerian Navy’s unwavering commitment to inter-agency collaboration, national economic security, and the protection of human lives.
He said the command would continue to maintain an aggressive operational posture to deny criminal elements freedom of action within its AOO.
Kabir encouraged members of the public to assist with credible information to safeguard the nation’s maritime domain.
