NCF, Edebire family partner on tree planting

The Nigerian Conservation Foundation and the family of late Prof. Unionmwan Edebire has partnered to plant trees at the University of Lagos Staff School in memory of their father, don and scholar.

The tree planting exercise also took place at the Faculty of Arts and the Catholic Church where the revered don worshipped.

Speaking at the event, the daughter of the don, Efe Farinre, said that the tree planting signifies that when one life dies, another comes onboard.

she said that there was no better way of remembering her dad than to plant trees in his memory for the sustainability of the earth.

Also the Acting Headmistress of the school, Eunice Akinade, thanked the family of the late don for the gesture.

She underscored the importance of the trees, like cashew tree, which she noted that some of the children were not used to.

Also speaking, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Akanbi Ilupeju, and his colleaugues at the faculty, said that the late don lived an exemplary life.

The dean described Edebire as his mentor and father.

Earlier, Adedamola Ogutuga, NCF, explained to the students the importance of tree planting in mitigating the impact of climate change .

She noted that trees take away carbondioxide from the atmosphere, and in return gives out oxygen that humans need.

NCF, the foremost environmental conservation NGO has championed conservation and sustainability of the environment for over four decades.
