The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted cocaine hidden inside a local mortar and a backpack meant for shipment to China and Italy through a Lagos logistics company.
NDLEA operatives from the Directorate of Operations and General Investigations (DOGI) made the seizures on Thursday, July 30, 2026.
Officers found 250 grams of cocaine factory-fitted into the base of a local mortar packed for export to China.
They also recovered 500 grams of cocaine hidden in the false bottom of a backpack destined for Italy.
NDLEA operatives in Rivers State arrested a 38-year-old suspected drug dealer, Ugo Gift Okonkwo, at Eagle Island, Port Harcourt, after acting on credible intelligence.
Officers arrested the suspect on Sunday, July 26, with quantities of cannabis, cocaine, methamphetamine, Swinol, tramadol and codeine syrup.
NDLEA officers conducting stop-and-search operations at the DMGS Roundabout in Onitsha, Anambra State, intercepted a truck marked XK 131 BDG on Monday, July 27.
The truck carried 26,000 bottles of codeine syrup weighing 3,960 kilograms. Officers also arrested the 40-year-old driver, Chinedu Nwanze.
NDLEA operatives recovered 331.84 kilograms of skunk from a Toyota Sienna with registration number KUJ 26 DV along the Kwale-Ughelli Expressway in Delta State on Sunday, July 26.
Officers in Nasarawa State arrested 64-year-old Joseph Nwaeke on Tuesday, July 28, at Asso Angwan Muazu in Karu. They recovered 68 kilograms of skunk and 29 grams of methamphetamine from him.
In response to ongoing intelligence, NDLEA operatives on patrol along the Zaria-Gusau Highway in Zamfara intercepted 27-year-old Sani Umar on Monday, July 27.
Officers recovered 7,400 tablets of tramadol 225mg, which they suspect were meant for criminal elements operating in the area.
NDLEA commands nationwide continued their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) awareness campaign in schools, worship centres, workplaces and communities.
The agency held sensitisation lectures at Hausawa Special Primary School in Kano, Royal Crown School in Oluyole, Ibadan, Government Secondary School in Ibi, Taraba State, and for drivers at Challenge Bus Terminal Park in Ibadan.
NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), praised officers from the DOGI, Rivers, Anambra, Delta, Nasarawa and Zamfara commands for the successful operations.
He urged them and other personnel across the country to sustain the agency’s balanced approach to drug control and enforcement.
