Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring, Rep. Boma Goodhead, has reaffirmed confidence in Nigeria’s potential to compete on the global industrial stage.

Goodhead stated this after leading a delegation on an oversight visit to Zobis Cable Nigeria Ltd., an indigenous cable manufacturing company based in Onitsha, Anambra State.

She commended the company’s remarkable industrial strides, describing its operations as a reflection of President Bola Tinubu’s renewed drive for national industrial transformation.

“The adherence of Zobis Cable to the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act is commendable.

“The company’s deployment of modern production technology and its commitment to value addition and import substitution are also commendable,” she said.

Goodhead noted that the visit reaffirmed Nigeria’s capacity to produce world-class industrial materials locally to meet the demands of the oil and gas, energy and construction sectors.

“What we have seen here is a strong demonstration of Nigerian ingenuity, technical excellence and commitment to industrial growth.

“With the right policy support and access to the oil and gas value chain, indigenous manufacturers like Zobis Cable can compete globally,” she said.

Goodhead emphasisedd that the company’s operations align with President Tinubu’s directive for ministries, departments and agencies to prioritise locally made goods under the ‘Nigeria’s First Goods and Services’ initiative.

“The House Committee fully supports this vision and will continue to provide the necessary legislative framework to ensure its full implementation across the industrial ecosystem, “she added.

Goodhead assured Zobis Cable and other local manufacturers of the National Assembly’s commitment to policies that promote local production, attract investment and ensure Nigerian products receive due recognition.

In his remarks, Chief Executive Officer of John Zobis Group, Mr John Ezeobi, thanked the committee for the visit, describing it as a major step toward encouraging local patronage.

“This engagement will help connect indigenous industries like ours to key players in the oil and gas sector, reducing reliance on imported cables and materials,” Ezeobi said.

He appealed to the Federal and State governments to support manufacturers with accessible funding to ease raw material costs.

According to him, such support can also help firms generate their own electricity for production.

Earlier, Anambra State Commissioner for Industry, Mr Christian Udechukwu, who received the committee on behalf of Gov. Chukwuma Soludo, reiterated the state government’s partnership with the company.

He said the Soludo administration had enhanced security, power supply and industrial infrastructure to create a conducive environment for investors and manufacturers.
