A 64-man team is currently representing Nigeria at the 4th Africa Youth Games, held in Luanda, Angola.

The country is participating in 13 of the 33 sports being offered at the event.

The competition is a qualifying event for the first Olympic Youth Games, scheduled to be hosted in Africa by Senegal next year, according to Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel.

Gumel also doubles as the Treasurer-General of the Association of the National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), the official owners of the Africa Youth Games.

These are in Athletics,
Badminton, Beach Volleyball,
Boxing and Cycling.

Others include golf, Judo, Swimming, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Tennis, Weightlifting, and Wrestling.

The Games are taking place in Angola from December 10 to December 20, 2025.

The country’s contingent was announced at the end of the Delegation Registration Meeting (DRM) led by Nigeria’s Chef de Mission/Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mr Bukola Olopade.

The events are spread across six cities in Angola under a local Organising Committee, COJA.

These are Luanda, Benguela, Lubango, Huambo, Moçâmedes, and Caxito.

Already, the leader of the Federal Government delegation, Mallam Dikko, has arrived in Luanda ahead of the official opening ceremonies, billed for December 13.

His arrival has boosted the Morale of Team Nigeria to the Games.
