London, Aug. 7, 2023: The Nigerian community in South Africa has again been thrown into mourning after a fight between two friends resulted in the demise of one in Bloemfontein, Freestate, on Aug. 2.

A statement by Habib Miller, the National Publicity Secretary, Nigeria Union South Africa (NUSA), made the disclosure on Monday.

According to the statement, witnesses in the province, say that the problem started when Vitalis Nwaguba, who hails from Ogwa Mbaitoli town in Imo State, won an undisclosed amount of money through a sport betting platform.

His friend, Osundu Pascal Mba, from Isu Local Government, also in Imo State, who had been benevolent to him then demanded for a share of the winning.

Nwaguba, who is disabled, vehemently declined and also advised Mba to try his luck in gambling.

This did not go down well with Mba as he became aggressive and was alleged to have harassed and assaulted his friend throughout the day.

The witnesses said though there was an element of entitlement in Mba’s approach, mutual friends rebuked him for mandating Nwaguba to part with a portion of his prize money.

Later that night, Nwaguba was wrestled to the ground as Mba continued to torment him. Onlookers present at the scene cheered, and some even made videos of the fight.

However, amusement turned amazement to the spectators within a twinkle of an eye after Mba passed out having been strangled by Nwaguba in an apparent act of self-defence.

Paramedics were called and when they didn’t arrive on time, Mba was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His corpse was later taken to the morgue and no further action has been taken as at the time of this report.

“We enjoin our citizens to please desist from any manner of activity capable of endangering their lives.

“All at Nigeria Union South Africa (NUSA), hereby express our condolences to the families and friends of the deceased.
