
The Chairman of the Ebonyi Scholarship Board, Chief Chaka Nweze has said that Gov. Francis Nwifuru has used his administration’s scholarship scheme to transform education in the state.
Nweze made the assertion in an interview on the governor’s inprint on the education sector as the state marks Nigeria democracy celebration.
The scholarship board chairman said his administration’s impactful policies, particularly in the education, has attracted widespread support to the governor.
“Education has been the centre-point of Nwifuru administration’s “People’s Charter of Needs,” mantra with his national and overseas scholarship programme as a flagship initiative.
“The programme targets and supports 1,000 Ebonyi beneficiaries—300 for overseas studies and 700 within Nigeria to pursue postgraduate degrees.
“The beneficiaries are studying in critical fields such as engineering, technology, medical sciences, law among others,” he said..
Nweze noted that the governor ensured that the scholarship selection process was strictly merit-based, ensuring inclusivity and equitable representation across all Local Government Areas.
“The overseas scholarship beneficiariesare are currently enrolled in reputable United Kingdom universities while others are studying in leading Nigerian institutions.
“The programme has recorded outstanding academic performance, with a significant number of students graduating with distinctions and advancing to doctoral studies.
“The programme has seen over 200 beneficiariesn completing or are nearing completing their master’s programmes while a second batch of over 90 students recently commenced their studies abroad,” he said.
He noted that the governor approved scholarship for 450 students for both National Certificate of Education (NCE) and Degree programmes at Federal College of Dducation, ikwo.
“The school fees of those profiled have been paid directly to the college while the students’ annual living expenses will be paid directly to the them.
“The governor has equally recorded strides in other spheres of endeavour including health, human empowerment, infrastructural development, agriculture, sports among others.
“The governor has performed exceedingly well in office and will be returned for a second tenure in office by the people,”
