Nze Fidelis Ozichukwu Chukwu has been appointed as the new President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, replacing the late Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.

Chukwu, a former national vice chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the South East, was chosen during an Ime-Obi meeting in Enugu on Saturday, December 14, 2024.

He is to serve the remainder of the term allocated to Imo State, which ends on January 10, 2025.

To ensure continuity, the Imo State Chapter of Ohanaeze nominated Chukwu to complete the balance of the tenure, which was previously held by Imo State representatives.

Chukwu, an accomplished management executive and entrepreneur, has a rich educational background, including degrees from prestigious institutions such as Oxford, Harvard, and Cambridge.

He has held significant roles in both the public and private sectors, including as a director at Inland Bank Plc and managing director at Nigeria Merchant Bank.

His contributions to societal development and the Catholic Church have earned him multiple honors.

His appointment was widely welcomed by Ohanaeze members, with notable figures like Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State and Senators, as well as other Igbo leaders, expressing their support.

The appointment is expected to ensure a smooth transition of power and strengthen Ohanaeze’s leadership.
