A coalition of women leaders and community mobilisers, the Obi-Kwankwaso National Women’s Support Group, has begun a nationwide mobilisation drive ahead of the 2027 general election. It said its structures were now in place across the states.

The group is backing the presidential ticket of Mr Peter Obi and Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). It disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.

It said the campaign formally commenced on October 1, following the inauguration of its national leadership.

Convener and National Coordinator of the group, Anwuli Ogbechi, said women from every zone and background had come together to support the two leaders.

“They offer a vision of Nigeria that works for all: one that lifts up our families, empowers our communities, and builds a country where no one is left behind,” she said.

“Our state structures are fully in place and ready to deliver. Under the NDC banner, united across North and South, we move forward as one, to reach every home, to mobilise every community, and to secure the future our nation deserves.”

The group said it was founded by women inspired by the need for a better Nigeria. It listed its guiding ideals as democratic governance, inclusive leadership, social justice, national unity and responsible public service.

According to the statement, its work will go beyond electoral mobilisation. It will include leadership mentoring and political education for young women. It will also seek to draw professionals, entrepreneurs and women in the diaspora into political participation.

The group also listed medical and educational outreach among its programmes, alongside inclusion initiatives for persons with disabilities.

It said the next phase of the campaign would feature town hall meetings, community forums and nationwide outreach.

Other members of the national leadership are Hajia Mairo Musa Abubakar, National Vice Coordinator, North; Pastor Basiratu Musa Ibijoke, National Deputy Coordinator, South; and Lolo Victoria Mgbor Odogwu, National General Secretary. Tina Ohwo is Organising Secretary, while Hajia Fadimatu Atiku Danrimi is National Treasurer.

Also on the team are Chika Ibe, National Financial Secretary; Igbinlade Oluwagboyinmi Oluwatunmise, National Legal Adviser; and Chinyere O. Ejike, National Publicity Secretary.

The others are Blessing Okoli, Publicity Secretary; Esther Ajayi-Adetayo, Welfare Officer; and Ifeoma Uchechukwu, FCT and National Director, Interfaith and Intertribal Affairs.

The zonal coordinators are Hajia Kaltume Babayo, Zainab Turaki, Dr Sophia Orji, Yetunde Elizabeth Awoyemi and Mrs Vivian Obiajulu Uyanne.
