The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Anambra Elders Council has thrown its weight behind the State Executive Committee led by Mr Chidi Chidebe.

The PDP Elders who rose from a crucial meeting in Anambra in Awka said the party in the state is peaceful , intact and in safe hands.

The Communique was signed by Chief Felix Oli and Dr Odili Ojukwu, chairman and Secretary respectively.

They said the current Anambra PDP executive was performing well and all stakeholders were being
actively engaged.

The Elders Council called the falsehood against the legitimate state executive committee regrettable and concerning.

They said nothing warranted the call for the dissolution of the PDP leadership in Anambra.

They called on the National Working Committee and PDP Governor’s forum to ignore the propaganda.

The Council said the call for dissolution would destabilise the legitimate structure of PDP in Anambra.

According to them, it can weaken internal cohesion and cast doubts over the credibility of the Nov.8 governorship elections in the state and the National Convention.

The Elders Council said there was no legal action pending against the Anambra executive Committee.

They said any rumour suggesting otherwise was entirely false.

“The NWC should exercise caution and discernment towards purveyors of such misleading information.

“The Anambra PDP Elders Council firmly states that any attempt to disrupt or dissolve the legitimately elected Executive Committee would be a direct invitation to instability and unrest.

“The NWC must resist any influence that seeks to create unnecessary conflict.

“We have made progress and there is no justification for regression.

“No injustice has been meted out to any member and the Executive maintains a strong working relationship with the NWC

“One of the most significant achievements of the current NWC remains the free and fair congress conducted in Anambra.

“Having accomplished this milestone, the NWC must not allow itself be manipulated into undermining its own success,”they said.

The Council appreciated the efforts of the NEC, National Working Committee, Governors’ Forum, Board of Trustees and the National Caucus in stabilising the party.

They recommended that the NWC should convene a meeting of major stakeholders of the PDP in Anambra.

According to them, it should be held within the state to accurately gauge the prevailing sentiment and mood of the party.

“We extend our sincere gratitude to the NWC led by Amb. Iliya Damagun, for their steadfast support during our challenging period.”
